Club3D Radeon HD 7790 13Series 1GB Graphics Card Review

Coming back to look at one of Club3D’s products is a welcome sight and to start off the return with a white box product shows you can spend even less to get good performance. When I first had the card out of the box and had a quick glance over it, my big concern was that the simple small cooler was going to have a drastic effect on the performance of the Bonaire core and that the overall performance results would be down on similar offerings.

To my surprise though and given that this only has a very light over clock, the 13Series card was able to give almost just as much performance as we have seen from Sapphire’s card and again it blows the GTX 650Ti out of the water. Touching a little on my CrossFire review where I took two of these cards together, the performance is practically half of what two cards can give again showing the AMD’s Catalyst suite and the technology on the card together are able to give near to double the performance scaling that we would expect.

On a note of the 13Series, Club3D are not offering this series with every type of card (ie 7870, 7850, 7970 etc) but more a selected range from across the board. What this means in the long run is that as the card is expected to ship for less (around £8-10 less than a full retail package) the overall cost of a system build will be less for both home builders, but also for system integrators which will then lead to lower total build costs giving the end user a better system for their money. Of many more manufacturers followed suit, I’m sure they will discover that the uptake will be a more than they expected, after all if you’re putting three cards into a system for example, you don’t really want to have three times the accessories and the extra cost to go with them, when all you’re after is the card itself.

At this moment, the 7790 13Series card is not quite ready to hit the shelves, but it is expected to be available in the next week or so and should see a price point of around £113 /135€.

Bottom line, you don’t need to get a colourful shiny box with extras to get the same performance as a white box product and if you still want a little more, why not over clock it. You’ll save yourself money and get good performance – everyone’s got the upper hand.
