CM Storm Quick Fire TK Mechanical Keyboard Review

When it came to testing the Quick Fire TK it seemed only fitting that it should be put through it’s paces in a gaming environment first. I opted for a late night gaming session, dimmed the room lights and put the TK’s red LED’s on stun, which made them extremely easy to read at a glance while in the heat of battle.

I opted for a few hours on Battlefield 3 multiplayer as this is generally quite a demanding game that requires lightening fast reactions and precision control. The super light force required to operate the Cherry MX Red keys made for minimal strain on my fingers and definitely resulted in less finger ache at the end of the night and it’s safe to say that the keyboard didn’t miss a beat.

With the gameplay test out of the way it was time to do some work on the TK, I’ve been using it for a couple of days now for my day to day web browsing, gaming and work. The light force required for the keys resulted in me being able to type faster and for longer with minimum strain on my hands. The trade off for this is that the keys don’t take much of a knock to register a key stroke, so typing errors do become an issue for the first few hours of use, until you adjust to the sensitivity.

The only issue I had was when using things like spreadsheets and Photoshop  as this keyboard wasn’t designed with office work tasks in mind. The issue really is a small one though and it’s to do with the number pad. While I love that CM Storm have given us dual function number keys, having to toggle between them constantly became quite a chore for me and not something I’d care to get used to. I stress again though, this keyboard was designed for gaming, not for filling out spreadsheets.
