CM Storm QuickFire Pro Mechanical Keyboard Review

CM Storm are a fairly new company to join the peripheral market with products aimed exclusively at gamers. We’ve seen the likes of mechanical keyboards, feature rich mice, and even surround sound headsets come from CM Storm. Not only do they produce PC peripherals, but also cases, which we’ve reviewed in the past. Today we get to take a look at the latest mechanical keyboard to be released by the company. Read on to see why we got a little bit excited.

We’ve reviewed a lot of keyboards at eTeknix, with the majority of them being high end mechanical keyboards that would set you back an organ or two. With these mechanical keyboards, we’ve seen different flavours of switches, with the Cherry Blacks being the most popular for gamers. Today we get to test out Cherry MX Red switches, which are similar to Blacks in feel and motion, but require slightly less actuation force. Many gamers prefer red switches due to the lighter touch required, so you often see them on some of the higher end boards, which is the case with today’s keyboard – the CM Storm QuickFire Pro.

Slightly similar to the QuickFire Rapid, this keyboard features a full layout (the Rapid does not have a numpad), partial backlighting and of course Cherry MX Red switches instead of black. See below for the spec from CM Storm’s site:

  • Mechanical CHERRY MX switches
  • USB 2.0 full speed
  • NKRO in USB mode
  • Multimedia shortcuts
  • 1000Hz/1ms response time
  • Windows key disabled in game mode
  • Partial Red LED backlight
  • Removable braided USB cable with cable routing
As you can read, there are a fair amount of features packed into this keyboard, so lets take the jump and see how it looks.
