CM Storm Sentinel III Ergonomic RGB Gaming Mouse Review

A Closer Look

The Sentinel III has a really nice finish, with a hard plastic shell that provides plenty of ergonomic curves for excellent grip and comfort, with tough rubber top section on the LMB and RMB for added control.

Down the left side, you’ll find the usual two side buttons, but the TX button is especially interesting. If you use the included software, you can create a shift button, allowing you to program a second level of controls on the mouse. Use all the buttons for gaming, but hold the TX button and you can set macros, shortcuts, multimedia controls and more to the other buttons on the mouse; this is really handy for MMO gaming especially.

The right side of the mouse is slightly curved, giving you a good gripping point and the slightly wider back of the mouse gives a nice palm rest too.

The front of the mouse curves downwards, giving you a good set of ergonomics for palm rest and fingertip/claw grips.

There’s a slight slope from left to right too, providing a more natural wrist position, that keeps your arm that little bit more comfortable, even after a marathon gaming session.

The scroll wheel has a soft and grippy rubber coating, giving it excellent control. Behind it, you’ll find two control buttons, and another in front of them. What’s interesting is that these have extra functions, hold back left for 5 seconds to adjust DPI via scroll wheel, hold the back right for five seconds to adjust the LOD via scroll wheel and hold the front one for five seconds to auto tune LOD. When auto-tuning the LOD, you simply have to hold LMB and draw circles with the mouse to configure it.

On the base, you’ll find some slipmats that give the Sentinel III excellent glide on virtually any surface.

The bottom cover can be flicked off with your fingernail, behind which you’ll find five 4.5g weights.

This is great, as you can make the mouse lighter, heavier or adjust the overall balance of it to suit your needs/playstyle/gaming surface.

The grip is very comfortable, even for my big hands!

There’s a good amount of space on the left for your thumb to rest and the same on the right, giving a nice grip point for your little and ring finger.

The sensor on this mouse is absolutely delightful to use, super silky and smooth at low DPI, and just as consistent even at the maximum settings. There’s no issues with acceleration, no angle snapping, no jitter, you pretty much couldn’t ask for a better sensor, so hats off to CM for making the right choice on this one.

Pinpoint accuracy is an obvious winning feature for any mouse, so using the Sentinel III for work and gaming is obviously great. From working in Photoshop to playing CS:GO,  the precise tracking doesn’t let you down one bit here. Add to that the ability to set multiple DPI levels to multiple profiles and you’ve got a huge range of control settings right from the mouse, without the need for the software, something that’s going to save you time and leave you ready to play in tournaments, where desktop software is not permitted anyway.

The buttons are snappy and responsive, something that will please the click-happy MOBA and FPS crowd, but they’re also just nice for day-to-day work, with a good tactile feedback and excellent grip.

The shift function is a huge bonus too, virtually doubling the number of available commands on the mouse, which we found was great for MMO gaming, or just having your multimedia controls at your fingertips.

The RGB lighting isn’t overpowering, but you get a nice pair of forward lights just at the sides of the USB cable.

As well as in the mesh at the top.

Skipping through profiles and DPI is super easy with the control buttons, but made even easier with the awesome OLED display on the top of the mouse. There’s a little CM logo in there too which can be customised and who wouldn’t want to do that! Awesome little feature.

Of course, RGB lighting is here too, so you can tweak that to your hearts desire, giving you plenty of customisation options to play around with.
