CM Storm Trigger Mechanical Keyboard Review

Straight out the of the box you are presented with a modern, industrial looking keyboard that has a rather unusal feature for a keyboard and that is a modular cable! The Trigger uses a gold-plated USB connector at one end and a Mini B USB connector at the other end. This is the only cable that is supplied with the keyboard and you will see later, that there is also an option to use a 5V power adaptor to power the USB ports. As with most of the mechanical keyboards we see, it also comes with a detachable wrist rest.

The Trigger features Cherry MX Black switches throughout the keyboard.

Along the top of the keyboard are the media keys that are accessible by holding down the function key that you will see later.

There are 5 macro buttons down the left side of the keyboard. They are positioned fairly close to the Ctrl button, which could be an issue later.

On the underside of the keyboard there are six rubber feet and the usual product sticker that lists the SN, model number and usual certifications.

Each key is individually lit by one red LED on the CM Storm Trigger, which provides a decent coverage. The intensity of the lights is adjustable, with three brightness settings to choose from.

As you can see the Trigger is well lit and looks even more stunning when in low light environments.

The Trigger also has a lighting mode for when you are gaming. In this mode, only the macro keys, WASD and the arrow keys are lit up.

A closer look at the LED gaming profile.

Like most of the mechanical keyboard we have seen, the Trigger also has 2x USB 2.0 ports, which are unpowered unless you connect a 5V power supply. The Trigger does not feature a headphone or mic port like some of the other keyboards we have seen.
