It has been two years since hacker group LulzSec, (believed to be a splinter group of Anonymous) cyber attacked Sony, many of Sony’s servers had been hacked including the Playstation Network, and Sony Motion Pictures. There were several people charged for the account including Cody Kretsinger AKA Recursion. Kretsinger was arrested September 22, 2011 by FBI agents.
On the LulzSec website they published that they were responsible for the cyber attacks on Sony, which took place between May 27,2011 and June 2, 2011. Posting the following.
“We recently broke into SonyPictures.com and compromised over 1,000,000 users’ personal information, including passwords, email addresses, home addresses, dates of birth, and all Sony opt-in data associated with their accounts.”
Though Kretsinger faced a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison for his charges of one count of Conspiracy, and one count of unauthorized impairment of a protected computer. Which he plead guilty to both charges last year, he was only just now being charged today. His final sentencing for the crimes were a one year prison term, once he is released from prison, he will be placed on home detention and must serve 1,000 hours of community service.
