How Much Does It Cost?

Unfortunately, at the time of writing, I couldn’t see stock of the Colorful CVN Z790D5 Gaming Frozen Motherboard at any of our preferred retailers, or even some of the ones we don’t prefer, but it could simply be that what stock was available has sold out and is waiting for restocking, so I’ll leave a general Amazon search link for this motherboard here.

Overview

Colorful is a brand I wish we saw a lot more of here on eTeknix, as they have some really interesting and unique product designs. Obviously, their new CVN Z790D5 Gaming Frozen Motherboard is a welcome addition to that too, with one of the most distinctive and interesting designs of any motherboard on the market today. I like the little addition of jets and boats to the design, but I appreciate that they’re somewhat understated, and it’s the overall brushed aluminium and copper that speak the loudest here. For those wanting a striking PC build, this certainly fits the bill.

Build Quality

It’s also well made, and as good as those heatsinks look, they’re providing a lot of mass and surface area to cool the two rows of VRM around the CPU, all of the M.2 slots, and the chipset, ensuring your system can run at its best all day long. As you saw in our benchmarks, it’s clearly all working well, as the overall performance was pretty respectable throughout. However, the VRM does tend to chew threw more power and output more heat than most, but it does deliver more gaming performance too.

Added Value

Its connectivity doesn’t offer much in the way of innovation, but it’s certainly ticking all the right boxes for a high-end PC build. A good range of USB formats ensures you can hook up lots of peripherals, as well as high-speed devices such as external storage. There’s fast LAN and WiFi, albeit that’s pretty much the standard this gen, but overall, I really can’t fault it.

Should I Buy One?

If you’re looking for a unique aesthetic from your next motherboard, the Colorful CVN Z790D5 Gaming Frozen is one of the coolest-looking motherboards out there. When it comes to gaming, working or anything else really, it has the performance to keep up with its rivals. The only main challenge here is finding one in stock, and making sure you get a little more airflow over your VRM.
