Even though reference cards don’t really differ much between AIB partners, they do fill an important role in the lineup. Starting with GTX 1080, Nvidia has rebranded their Pascal reference models with the more elaborate title of Founders Edition. Several partners have already teased their GTX 1080 Founders Edition and Colorful has now joined their ranks. More interesting is the teaser of a custom model as well.
The first GTX 1080 from Colorful features the same 1607 Mhz base and 1722 Mhz boost core clockers of the rest. The GP104 die features 2560 CUDA cores along with 8GB of GDDR5X over a 256bit bus for 320GB/s of bandwidth. While the cooler isn’t anything special, the move to 16nm FinFETs along with the new Pascal architecture will allow for pretty good overclocks even with the stock cooler.
In addition to the Founders Edition, Colorful ahs also indicated they will be showing off their custom GTX 1080 at Computex. I expect the event will be where we get our first glimpse of a lot of the custom GTX 1080 AIB partners have in the works. I for one am excited as looking at some very nice looking cards and it doesn’t hurt that some of them might be cheaper than the Founders Edition.
