Company of Heroes 2 to get vehicle capture and cover jumping abilities

Those who have played Company of Heroes before will be familiar with a few flaws the game has. But even for those who haven’t played before, it is easy to see the “unrealistic” nature of some of the flaws that currently exist, such as:

  • the ability to block the movement of infantry by low height objects such as tank traps and picket fences
  • line of sight being revealed in a radial motion around units allowing you to see around corners and buildings
  • not being able to capture open top vehicles even though the gunners are clearly exposed
  • large tanks being stopped by small buildings even though they can be 4 times as big as the building (the King Tiger for example)

And for the gamer who prefers realism these flaws can be quite frustrating and a let down, but nonetheless are tolerated due to the fact that as a whole Company of Heroes is a widely acclaimed and brilliant RTS series. Recent testers of the Company of Heroes 2 gameplay demo have picked up on corrections to the flaws listed as above. The fixes will be welcomed by everyone, but for those who have played the game before it is easy to see how such changes will radically change the gameplay. The fixes are as follows:

  • Infantry can now vault/jump over low height objects such as fences and tank traps although the specific vault height limit is not known
  • line of sight is only revealed based on what the particular ground unit can see (relic are calling this True Sight), no more revealing corners before you’ve travelled round them or seeing through buildings with line of sight
  • most vehicles can now be captured through various means such as grenades, flamethrowers or sniping, this means you can now commandeer enemy vehicles and turn those against them
  • tanks and armoured vehicles can now plough right through most buildings

And in addition to those wide range of “fixes”, graphics are also vastly improved too with some gameplay images being revealed which you can see in this article. Expect much more news on Company of Heroes 2 in the coming months as the 2013 launch draws closer.
