How Many Hours to Complete These 10 Awesome PC Games?!

Lockdown, quarantine, homeschooling, home drinking, and a new love of jogging bottoms vs jeans has taught me many things. If anything, it’s taught me to really get out there… Uhm, stay in here and finish those things I was putting off. I’ve been finishing those movies I never got around to, reading books I’ve never read, and finishing games I never completed. Actually, I’ve bought very few games in the last two years, as I’ve played a lot of classic games on the arcade we made.

10 Awesome PC Games

However, there’s plenty of big titles out there that people skipped, missed, or put off. Then again, if you played them and were thinking of going back, well there’s never a better time. What’s more, a lot of people don’t think they have the time. So why not research that? I often plan my gaming time, ahead of… well, the time I guess. Especially with older games, How Long to Beat usually has some reliable metrics. If a game has too many hours to finish, I can decide on my difficulty levels and expectations going in. I may even mod a game to make my experience, not always “easier” but more enjoyable and less grindy. Either way, as a PC gamer, it’s great to have options.

Fallout 3

Just think, you put off Fallout 3 for years and years, but with less than 24 hours play time, you can burn through that main quest! All the cool mods are out there, plus there are guides-a-plenty. What are you waiting for? Get more spare time afterwards and check new New Vegas too!

Deus Ex

Even putting in the extra time to explore doesn’t mean overly demanding hours on Deus Ex. However, just the main quest is pretty enjoyable for the tourist gamers out there, and it’ll lead you to the excellent modern games too. It’s been over 20 years if you haven’t played this yet, you really should. Plus, there are excellent mods that bring it seriously up to date.

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age

Still one of the most innovative and interesting entries in the series. I’m a big fan of Final Fantasy VII myself, but this takes 2nd place for me. It’s a slow burner at first, but some of the dungeon crawls, high-level bosses and some truly fantastic characters make the 40+ hours play time fly bye. I did 220 hours on last play through and still want to do it again.

The Witcher 3

The Witcher 1 was a bit clunky but still entertaining. The Witcher 2 was still clunky, but the visuals and world-building were massively improved. However, it was in The Witcher 3 that they struck gold. Sure, the trilogy is worth your time, but even newcomers can jump in at the 3rd entry and still have a blast.

Grand Theft Auto V

People praise the online aspect of this game, and well… I’m not one of them. However, the main story is one of those things I wish I could do for the first time once again. Three main stories all intertwined with each other. It’s utterly fantastic how they put it all together, and there’s plenty of madness on offer. If you feel done after just 31 hours, I’d be surprised.

Portal & Portal 2

This is one of those games you can complete in a single sitting. I put this off for so many years when it came out. You think it’s just a puzzle game, yet it becomes so much more. Try it, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Of course, if you’re looking for a game to complete over a weekend, then it makes sense to follow up with Portal 2. Such a shame there aren’t more of these games, but Valve has a limited counting system.

Metal Gear Solid V

There’s a lot of hate surrounding this game, albeit, it’s meant to be about Konami stuffing the franchise and sacking Kojima. However, a lot of that heat is misdirected at the game, and it shouldn’t be! It’s one of the most entertaining games you’ll ever play. It’s one of those games that admits it is a game, and doesn’t let reality limit its world. From silly weapons to loads of Easter eggs, this is classic Kojima throughout. Bosses worthy of the biggest Marvel movie and a crazy story make this a fine example of the series. I still prefer the original four games, but V is by far one of the best open-world shooters ever made, and it’s fun!

Halo: The Master Chief Collection

Halo, a game that needs little introduction. It started with a home on PC, but thankfully after many years, many updates, and a complete remaster, Microsoft has brought the entire franchise to PC gamers. With keyboard and mouse support and controller support on PC and cross-play, there’s never, ever, been a better time to get back into Halo.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Seriously, I know people joke that this game has been released on everything from a shoe to a toaster. However, when was the last time you REALLY played it? Have you EVER played it? It was 10 years ago. Stop pondering and go be the Dragon Born once again (or for the first time!).

Stardew Valley

How on Earth do you expect me to spend over 50 hours planting crops? Well, there’s little more to Stardew than meets the eye. It’s a remarkably deep game, with exploration, dungeon crawling, farming, relationships and more secrets than you can shake a rake at. Pluas, it’s an utterly gorgeous game to play, and with recent updates, it’s co-op friendly too.

If you just blast through some of the main stories of these iconic games, you’ll be looking at three months of gaming bliss and only putting in 3 3/4 hours of gaming a day! A bit of Skyrim on your lunch break. So, what games would you add to this list… and I guess, how long will they take to beat?

Peter Donnell

As a child still in my 30's (but not for long), I spend my day combining my love of music and movies with a life-long passion for gaming, from arcade classics and retro consoles to the latest high-end PC and console games. So it's no wonder I write about tech and test the latest hardware while I enjoy my hobbies!
