Starting off with the cameras audio and video settings, the main page that many users will find themselves on is the video settings. The camera is able to offer two simultaneous streams – one to a desktop system and in this case as set-up below, the second stream is to a mobile device which in this case is my Nexus 4 phone.
Switching over to the live view, the delay between the camera and what is seen on screen is very little time at all, which means that you really do have a real-time view of what’s going on. At the top of the window is a view mode option. In instances where there is more than one camera connected to the network, these can all be viewed simultaneously on one screen and then be switched to individually if the need arises.
The left hand bar of the window is for the cameras local recording options. We will note that this will require users to use Internet Explorer instead of Chrome or Firefox for example due to comparability with the cameras firmware.
Being able to view the camera(s) locally is all and well, but its not really much of a security system if you’re in the premises at the time. This is where the cameras cloud service comes into play. After downloading the C4Home app from either the Play Store for Android devices or the App store for iOS, the camera is paired to the app by using the QR code that is printed to the back.
After signing into the clocked service, the C4Home app gives an overview of all the cameras that is paired with the system and they can then be individually viewed for a closer look. Naturally the quality you see is dependent on the Stream 2 settings that have been applied – as seen above. I would recommend not setting the quality above 256Kbps for most ADSL users or above 1Mbps for fibre internet users as this does have an impact on the refresh rate of the video on the mobile device.
One of the great features with the cloud app is the ability to talk back to the camera remotely, so if you have a misbehaving or unsettled child or even an intruder, you can directly speak to them from where ever you are.
