Gears of War 4 has been with us for a while now, but one big feature still remains on the sidelines. While Xbox One and Windows 10 gamers can play together in the Social Quickplay mode, only the console gamers have had access to any type of ranked gameplay. The Coalition has revealed that ranked crossplay will be coming to the game later this year, which is a bit vague, as there’s a lot of the year left, but at least it’s coming!
A temporary update on PC adds players into Core and Competitive playlists, which is no doubt an early bridge into the new ranking system. Core features weekly rotated TDM and KOTH playlists, while Competitive features Escalation and Competitive Warm Up; Warm Up is the only Ranked playlist with crossplay.
Hopefully, these changes will allow PC gamers to achieve the previously inaccessible Seriously 4.0 and Ranked and Filed achievements; the Coalition are planning to rework these achievements in the upcoming May update.
Obviously, mouse and keyboard vs controller is going to be a bloodbath of console gamers, but users will have the option to compete against those using the same controller or get destroyed, but at least you have that choice. Windows 10 gamers, however, will not be allowed to choose to only play against controller users if they’re using keyboard and mouse.
