Cooler Master GM27-CFX 240Hz Gaming Monitor Review

Performance

I really can’t fault this monitor, as right out of the box, the colour accuracy is really incredible. Admittedly, I do suggest you set it to the Gamma 2.4 mode, and this has a significant impact on the quality of the image and contrast. The backlight has a fantastic range to it too, but it’s actually quite comfortable to leave maxed out, the colours really pop, and it doesn’t affect the overall motion. Plus, if you want to use the MPRT mode, which strobes the backlight, you’re going to lose half the brightness anyway, but it will get the response time down to an exceptionally swift 0.5ms.

The display has Normal, Advanced, UltraFast, and Dynamic modes for the overdrive, as well as MPRT with high, medium, low and off. I felt they worked well, but didn’t really feel they were needed either, as at 240hz, things are already feeling pretty smooth here. However, the Dynamic or Normal over-drive modes do work well if that’s what you prefer. Plus, it supports Adaptive, Freesync and G-Sync too, so screen tearing isn’t an issue. Plus, if you’re able to push 200+ FPS, screen tears are so fast, you rarely notice them anyway.

There are a lot of options on this monitor, such as black stabilization, advanced DCR, six gaming colour profiles, and colour space settings, all of which should be left alone, they’re largely just going to take you further away from the already very good out-of-the-box settings. The colours are accurate, and playing games or consuming content looks fantastic on the 27-inch panel.

The only downside is the resolution, at 1920×1080 it may not be ideal for those looking to do a lot of work and multiple windows for productivity. However, when you’re gaming, the extremely high refresh rate gives you a much higher perceived resolution while moving around, as the image clarity is maintained rather than blurring out as it would at lower refresh rates.
