Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler Review

Measuring temperatures is all about being consistent; therefore we make sure that the test is kept completely fair so that none of the coolers are at a disadvantage. We measure the CPU temperature using HWMonitor after a 15 minute idle period. We then measure the CPU temperature using HWMonitor after a 15 minute load period using Prime95 with the small FFTs setting.

The chart shows the delta CPU temperature (difference between ambient temperature and recorded CPU temperature). This way we can fairly compare each cooler without presenting any inaccuracies due to slight fluctuations in the ambient temperature or unfair results.

Here is an example of how to understand delta temperatures. “If the ambient (room) temperature is 25C and the recorded CPU temperature is 65C, the delta temperature is the CPU’s temperature rise above ambient temperature, therefore the delta temperature in this case would be 40C. If the ambient temperature is 23C and the recorded CPU Temperature is 80C, the delta temperature in this case would be 57C. Delta temperature = Recorded CPU temperature – Ambient temperature”

Cooler Master’s Hyper 212 EVO shows good cooling performance considering its price tag. The Hyper 212 EVO manages to outperform the more expensive Hyper 612S while nipping at the heels of Enermax’s ETS-T40-VD and Xigmatek’s Aegir. Cooler Master’s original Hyper 212 Plus performs around 6% better than its replacement when the CPU is operating at stock frequency.

  1. I think most people look for good cooling with a good price and quite at the same time. The 212 EVO sounds ok, but after this review I may be inclined to get the 212 Plus just for that reason.

    1. Both are great choices in terms of price, performance and acoustics. The choice depends upon preference. Some people may want the better performance of the 212 Plus whereas some may want the quieter operation of the 212 EVO.

  3. Your review is erroneous. The EVO's fan runs at between 600-2000 RPM, not 1600 as you stated, the same as the Plus. It has a greater CFM rating however, 24.9 – 82.9 compared to the Plus at 21.2 – 76.8. Also any other benchmark I have seen puts the EVO a few, to many, degrees ahead of the Plus. All statistics, except benchmark results, come directly from Cooler Master's website.
