Overview

Notebook coolers are about as unexciting a product as I can think of when it comes to desktop accessories, sorry CoolerMaster, but it’s true. That being said, this is by far the best one I’ve seen. It may be hard to get excited about a product like this, but it’s rare you by one because you like them, more that you have a need for one than anything else. If you’re system is running cool and quiet, you’re not the right customer, but if those noisy fans and high temperatures are becoming a problem, then it makes sense that this would be a viable solution to get things back under your control.

CoolerMaster has made a great effort to make this a stylish, practical and effective solution, and it certainly shows. The design is great, with a stylish aluminium top panel that is a compliment to any work environment. The height adjustment means you can easily get things setup to your liking and even give your flat notebook keyboard a more comfortable typing angle, while also helping to improve the underside airflow space.

The fans connect into the USB port easily enough, and a passthrough cable means you won’t be losing the use of that port. Of course, on the top “Maker” model such as the one we’ve got for review today, you also get that port-packed hub, which expands your systems connectivity options. This is great if you’re in an office that needs a lot of accessories to be connected and expands the uses of the NotePal quite a lot.

The biggest advantage here, however, is the movable fans. Most notebook coolers use a single large fan which often wastes a lot of airflow by blowing it across the whole base of your system, which is most often just blowing at flat plastic. By being able to move the fans directly to where airflow enters your system, you get far more efficient and direct cooling, which results in lower temperatures and lower noise overall.

Pros

  • Stylish design
  • Height adjustment
  • Movable fans
  • Removable USB hub
  • Great performance
  • Lightweight design

Cons

  • None

“The CoolerMaster MasterNotePal is as good a notebook cooler as you’ll ever see. It’s lightweight, stylish, powerful and offers expanded connectivity that is sure to be of great benefit to your workstation.”
