Cooler Master MasterPulse Bass FX Headphones Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The Cooler Master MasterPulse headphones are a very reasonable £39.99 and should be cropping up in online and highstreet stores from today.

Overview

Cooler Master have done good work with their headphones in the past, but a few minor tweaks here, a few more there, and the MasterPulse have finally gotten all the ingredients just right. When I reviewed the original Pitch I felt they lacked bass, and music sounded pretty weak on them overall too. Last year I reviewed the Pitch Pro, which were a huge improvement and had much more bass, and ironically, a little too much at times. Of course, with Bass FX, you can tune the performance, so the MasterPulse are more a redesign of their Resonar headset from two years ago, which I absolutely loved.

The design is really slick on these headphones, and while they do keep a lot of the aesthetics of the Resonar, gone is that bright red cable, for a more toned down and much more professional look; you wouldn’t look out of place wearing these anywhere.

Over the last few years, it has been good to see Cooler Master headphones getting better and better, and the MasterPulse are the perfect mixture of what I loved for all their previous in-ear sets. Thundering power, bass adjustment that really does have a significant impact to the audio, durable build quality, and a stylish design, all in one neat little package. The Bass FX can be a little tricky to adjust as you do have to remove each driver from your ear, give it a spin, and so on, but it’s not like you’ll be doing this every five minutes. You’ll find the setting that works best for you, leave it there, and get on with enjoying your audio.

At this price, with this level of performance, and with so much bass literally on tap, the MasterPulse are my favourite new headphones. I would like to see a Y-split cable, as well as an in-flight adaptor bundled to sweeten the deal, but since they’re affordable extras on sites like Amazon, it’s hardly a deal breaker.

Pros

  • Excellent build quality
  • Bass FX technology really works
  • Distortion free even at max volume
  • Powerful 8mm drivers
  • Tangle free cable
  • In-line microphone/control
  • Carry case included
  • Extra ear buds included

Cons

  • None

Neutral

  • Y-split cable and/or flight adaptor would be welcome extras

“Compact, stylish, competitively priced and packing a seriously impressive low-end kick that is sure to put a smile on the face of any music lover. The MasterPulse will make a welcome addition to any mobile music setup.”
