Price
The Cooler Master MasterPulse Pro should be available from today from most major retailers with an MSRP of just £74.99 (inc VAT). This is just £15 more than the MasterPulse, making it a good value upgrade over the base model.
Overview
Once again, Cooler Master has knocked it out of the park with their latest headset. The company has certainly been on a winning streak this year, delivering award-winning products one after the other, and not just in their peripherals division. The MasterPulse is still one of the best headsets I’ve tested this year, it looks great, performs great and the price was more than fair. While I still prefer a headset with a 3.5mm jack, like the MasterPulse, there’s a lot to be said for the benefits of the new Pro model too.
The build in USB powered sound card does a solid job of delivering a great sound, and it’s a nice boost for those who don’t rely on an external amp or soundcard (PCI). You just plug it in and you’re ready to rock all of the features it has to offer, without the need of software or drivers.
Equipped with 44mm Drivers, Bass FX Technology, 7.1 Surround, 3 Preset EQ, a discrete microphone, and RGB Illumination, the MasterPulse Pro certainly ticks all the right boxes for a multi-purpose headset, and we can see it proving a big hit with desktop users in general. Sure, it’s great for gaming and may even appeal to the competitive gaming market, but it’s a solid performer for movies, music or even just some occasional Skype use too.
The Bass FX technology is so simple to use too, just flick those panels on or off the headset and you can change the dynamics of the sound to a huge degree. This is more impactful than the EQ too, as you’re changing the physical characteristics of the speaker performance, not just boosting or cutting the range. Of course, with the virtual 7.1 and the EQ built-in to the controller, you can do that too, which only gives you more options to play around with and sculpt the sound that suits your taste.
If I could improve anything, it would be to add a removable boom microphone, not that the current one is bad, but I know some gamers who like to have something that is positional to suit their needs while gaming.
