How Much Does it Cost?
The Cooler Master MH650 Virtual 7.1 Surround Sound RGB Gaming Headset is available now from most major retailers. It’s currently on Amazon for just £79.00, which I think is pretty reasonable. Sure, it’s not a bargain at that price, but trust me that the quality feel of it in real life goes a long way to justify it. You’re getting what you pay for here, no doubt about it.
Overview
I’m actually a little torn on this one, as I love this headset, but I also love the slightly cheaper Cooler Master MH630 which is just £50. The drivers are the same, as is that funky ergonomic design, they’re both very competent and stylish headsets with great sound. However, the cheaper MH630 uses a 3.5mm jack, so it works on just about everything with a headphone jack, which is awesome.
So why buy the MH650? Well, that USB soundcard is pretty fantastic actually, and for an extra £20, getting all that surround processing is well worth it, but only if you’re a PC gamer. If you only want to use this headset on a PC, the MH650 is the right choice. If you’re a console/PC/mobile user with it, save a few quid and grab the MH630.
Build Quality
Honestly, I think the current MH series of headsets have the build quality, ergonomics and design to rival that of most £200 headsets. They’re absolutely stunning to look at, really well put together, and they just feel premium in every regard. That’s a big achievement for their price range, and some rival brands will have to up their game to match it.
Performance
Are they ultra-flat on the EQ range and studio perfect? Not really no, they’re definitely amped up a little bit, but that’s OK. They have a sniff of what I would call the “wow” factor. Just a bit more bass, and a bit more treble that gives you a bigger sound, and that’s great for movies, music and games in my opinion. You could EQ that out in the software though, but honestly, I think most will be happy with the stock profile, it sounds great.
Should I Buy Them?
As I said before, it depends on your usage scenario on which model to get. However, because of the built-in 7.1 amp, the MH650 is the superior sounding headset. At this price range though, the MH650 is as competitive as they come for sound quality, but I think they may be one of the best made and most comfortable in their class too.
