Cooler Master MP860 RGB Dual-Sided Mouse Mat Review

Final Thoughts

How Much Does it Cost?

The Cooler Master MP860 comes equipped with a plethora of lighting features and a dual-sided design. This does make it more equipped than most of its rivals, and as such, that is reflected in the price. It should be hitting retailers from today, with an MSRP of £79.99. Not cheap, but then again, this is a premium product for a niche market. It’s not like Cooler Master doesn’t make plenty of other affordable surfaces without RGB for those that need them.

Overview

The idea of an RGB mouse mat is one that is endlessly amusing to me. It’s an easy thing to mock and think “what’s the bloody point in that?” Well, there’s not much of one really. Even I mock the idea, and with all the irony I can muster, I still have one on my desk and love it. It’s just a fun thing to have. It has the potential to look great and the potential to look tacky. However, the choice is yours. I have mine set to a solid red to match my mouse and keyboard, while you may want it all spinning rainbows as my son has on his PC.

Freedom

Having more customisation is a lot of fun, even if it is not for everyone. Having that freedom of choice is great as a consumer. Sure, not everyone is going to need to or want to spend £80 on a light up mouse mat. Insert some joke about “what do you buy the PC gamer who has everything?” right here. Customisation aside though, this is a quality mouse mat, in fact, it’s two of them.

Flip It

On one side, you have gorgeous aluminium splendour, on the other, silky smooth cloth. I’m not talking about my latest flamboyant suit of armour either. The MP860 is all about choice, and from the colour to the dual surfaces, it does have a lot to offer. The features do soften the blow of the price a bit. At £15-20 more than its big-name rivals, it does look and perform better than most. Plus it doesn’t have that annoying “bump” on the back that its rivals have; that’s worth the extra cash all day long.
