Cooler Master Silencio S400 Silent mATX Case Review

Building a system inside the S400 should have been an easy task, but I did run into a few issues. Albeit, none of them are really Cooler Masters fault. My larger coolers didn’t quite fit right, but again, there are loads on the market, so no big deal. then my motherboards rear I/O shield turned out to be enormous so I had to remove the rear fan. Again, not CM’s fault, just one of those things. The end result, however, looks stunning. With our X299 mATX build sitting proudly in there and looking very clean over all.
The cable routing is excellent throughout the case. Of course, that’s helped in a big way by the PSU shroud. It looks great because I bundled up all the junk cables and crammed them out of sight. But hey, if it works, it works. I did have to run the PSU GPU cable a weird route though, perhaps a vertical pass-through would be nice.
There’s plenty of room for a big GPU though. The chassis is compact, but you can still afford to fit a massive GPU in here. Plus, with that front fan placement, you’ll get a pretty direct flow of cool air, which is nice.
I love how much room there is up in the front too. Even with a 5.25″ drive bay, you can still fit a pair of 140mm fans, or even a 280mm radiator if you so desired. Personally, I would favour air cooling for a silence focused build though.
I oped for a low-profile Noctua cooler. It’s a very quiet design too, and that’s kinda the whole idea here. Shame I lost the rear fan to get the motherboard in, but this damn X299 motherboard is the only mATX I have to hand right now.
Still, as you can see, there’s great clearance above the motherboard and on the right. This makes installing fans, routing cables, etc, all very easy.
Plus, with easy access to all of the filter, it’s easy to maintain too.
Cooler Master was nice enough to include their Tempered Glass panel too. Personally, I love the closed up thick metal panel. It more embodies the silence aspect. That being said, this is still a fantastic chassis in many ways, and it’s a nice one to show off the build too. Glass or steel, you have a choice, and that’s a good thing.
