Cooler Master Silencio S400 Silent mATX Case Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The Cooler Master Silencio S400 mATX PC Case is currently £96.97. That’s not cheap, I know. However, you get a lot of quality and materials here, and that doesn’t come for free. Compared to most chassis, I think the panel fit is superior, and very well engineered. Plus the thicker steel no doubt adds to the cost, and I really mean it, it’s a chunky little beast. Then add the plentiful and premium isolation materials, quality dust filters, built-in card reader and other tweaks… well, £95-ish doesn’t seem so unreasonable does it.

Overview

Cooler Master continues to make some very impressive PC cases. I had a Silencio back in the days of my Radeon 4770 and 955BE build. So what, 8-10 years ago? It was a lovely chassis, but nothing near as good as the modern-day equivalent. Gone as the plastics and pants airflow issues. Now we have high-airflow, low-noise and robust steel construction. It doesn’t come cheap, but you get what you pay for. You can get a plastic stamped out case with some foam in it for half the price, but it’ll look, feel and likely perform as cheaply as you might expect.

Silence isn’t Easy

So, you’ll notice I didn’t do a noise test? Well, there’s not really much point. The Silencio fans are whisper quiet. How quiet your build is, well that’s really down to your choice of hardware. Picking a low TDP CPU, a silent or even passive CPU cooler. You could get a hybrid fan PSU or even a silent one of those too. Then you’ve got the GPU, which is your main source of noise, buying a low RPM one with huge fans is likely the way to go. However, the Silencio S400 is going to help temper any fan noise you may have and it’ll do it in style too.

Should I Buy One?

It’s not for everyone, it is a little expensive, and it’s a little focused too. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with that, you pay for a quality product and you get exactly that. Thick panels, great engineering, and a clean looking silence focused design. For the recording studio, office, or even just at home, there are many of you who will appreciate those values.
