Conclusion

Pricing

Currently in the UK finding the Cooler Master Silent Pro Hybrid 850W power supply is like searching for a needle in a haystack. From a few smaller retailers, and based on the pricing of the Silent Pro Hybrid 1050W we can assume that it should retail in the region of £150-160. In the USA it was no easier to find the product but we know the pricing is $200 US if you can manage to find it.

Conclusion

The Cooler Master Silent Pro Hybrid is certainly a premium power supply and demands a price tag to match. In fact if you’re just looking for a 850W 80 Plus Gold PSU then you can pick these up from about £130 so the Cooler Master SPH 850W isn’t your cheapest option at £150-160. However, I think it certainly offers enough unique features to make it worth your while. We’ve seen that it has bucket loads of performance; voltage regulation is within +-1.5% on all the major rails, efficiency lives up to stated expectations, noise & ripple suppression is brilliant and the fan speed makes it a very quiet option up to 80% load. The overall design of the product is fantastic and the attention to detail on the whole design is just top draw. The extra fan controller is also a pretty nifty inclusion and is certainly something to set it apart from the competition.

There were a few things to pick at, high price aside, such as the fact the 24 pin has exposed coloured cables while every other modular cable is black. Also some of the fan controller cables aren’t sleeved at all and the others aren’t done to the same quality as the modular cables which is a little bit disappointing. Additionally, the PFC performance was slightly lower than expected for a unit of this calibre. However, those relatively minor things aside I think it is safe to say the CM Silent Pro Hybrid 850W is a brilliant power supply that anyone would be happy with.

Pros

  • Voltage regulation
  • Super Quiet operation up to 80% load
  • Beautiful aesthetics, aluminium plate finishes the design well
  • Amazing number of modular connectors and great quality cables
  • Extra Fan controller is a nice inclusion

Cons

  • Pricey compared to the competition, but still an attractive option
  • Relatively low PFC for its calibre
  • Poor availability
  • 24pin isn’t totally black
  • Fan controller cables are not sleeved

Cooler Master Silent Pro Hybrid 850W Modular Power Supply Review

“Cooler Master’s Silent Pro Hybrid 850W modular power supply really is a top performer. Despite its high price-tag you can’t help but be impressed by the quality of the aesthetics, the quality of the power delivery & performance and the overall user experience. The included fan controller sweetens the deal and in my opinion justifies the extra price over the competition. If you’re looking for cheaper options then they can be found, but if you don’t mind spending a little bit extra then I cannot recommend this power supply enough.”
