Cooler Master Tempest GP2711 165Hz Mini-LED Gaming Monitor Review

Cooler Master has been top of their game in the last couple of years, outputting many of my very favourite gaming monitors, so much so, that I actually now run three of them in the home and office for work and gaming. While we loved their GP27Q monitor last year, the new GP2711 takes all the amazing features it offered, but this time built around a VA panel, meaning it’s going to be considerably more affordable.

Don’t be fooled though, the IPS panel was great, but this one still has the same 27″ screen size and the VA means it’ll have a higher static contrast ratio, it still has a 165Hz refresh rate, and impressive HDR capabilities thanks to the 576-zone mini-LED backlighting technology, allowing for an extremely impressive VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification, with up to 1500 nits peak brightness.

The only real compromise here is the response time, which is now a <4ms G2G, while the IPS was sub 1ms. However, unless you’re playing in high-end eSports, a typical at-home enthusiast gamer is unlikely to sweat about that. But with 95% of DCI-P3 colour reproduction thanks to the Quantum Dot coating, adaptive sync, and FreeSync PRemium Pro Certification, well, I’m sure this monitor and I are going to get along just fine.

As a child still in my 30's (but not for long), I spend my day combining my love of music and movies with a life-long passion for gaming, from arcade classics and retro consoles to the latest high-end PC and console games. So it's no wonder I write about tech and test the latest hardware while I enjoy my hobbies!
