Cooler Master Tempest GP27Q Mini-LED Gaming Monitor Review

How Much Does it Cost?

I think this monitor is an absolute bargain, and while yes I realise the irony of calling a £500 monitor a bargain is a bit of a slap in the face, I have a point. The super awesome 4K model, the Cooler Master Tempest GP27U MiniLED Quantum Dot Gaming Monitor is £800/$799, and worth every penny I might add. However, the Cooler Master Tempest GP27Q Mini-LED Gaming Monitor is £300 cheaper, yet has a near identical level of features and performance, just fewer pixels. However, I think unless you truly need 4K for whatever reason, 2K (2560 x 1440) is plenty for work and gaming.

Overview

Cooler Master is rapidly turning into one of the most impressive monitor brands out there. That’s not to say that other brands haven’t just launched their own Mini-LED array monitors, as they have, and I bet they’re excellent too. However, so far, I haven’t seen Cooler Master release a single monitor that isn’t absolutely superb. So while they’ll likely never compete with the likes of AOC/Philips, who have enormous product ranges, it seems Cooler Master is still finding a comfortable place is a very busy monitor market.

What really sells me on the Cooler Master monitors though is the attention to detail. Firstly, all their monitors, this one included, are really nicely designed. They also have a shared design philosophy so their different monitors all look great together. This is also true of their peripherals and other products, which have stuck to a very similar theme and I think that makes a huge difference.

The build quality is excellent too. While I’ve mentioned it a bunch of times now, despite being £300 cheaper, there’s no compromise in the design compared to the more premium 4K version of this monitor. The only difference is in the panel, so you still get the same high-end stand and ergonomics, which is awesome.

Should I Buy One?

The Cooler Master Tempest GP27Q Mini-LED Gaming Monitor is extremely versatile. At 27″ it’s a great size for working and gaming. Plus, a 165Hz refresh rate means it’s going to make your gaming experience super smooth, and even get you onto a competitive level with eSports too. With all the latest and greatest display technologies, astonishing levels of colour reproduction, and that stunning array backlight, the GP27Q makes everything feel like a true next-gen experience. If you choose the 4K version or this version, you’ll not regret it.
