Final Thoughts

Pricing

Cooler Master’s V1200 Platinum power supply sells for $299.99 at Newegg and $275 at Amazon in the USA. In the UK Scan Computers stock the V1200 for £198.14 while Amazon sell it for around £205. A 7 year warranty is provided by Cooler Master.

Conclusion

A 1200 watt Platinum rated power supply is always going to be a fairly niche product so I’m not surprised to say it certainly commands a price premium for what it is. That price premium is in absolute terms, versus 1200W units of lower certified efficiency levels, because relative to similar 1200 watt Platinum rated units from other vendors like Corsair, EVGA and Super Flower the Cooler Master V1200 has competitive pricing. From the start of this review we knew the Cooler Master V1200 Platinum was going to be good as it’s based on a Seasonic OEM design and our testing has revealed that to be the case. The unit delivered on its 80 Plus Platinum efficiency promise, offered strong power factor correction performance and delivered excellent voltage stability especially on the all important 12 volt rail. The ripple suppression was also top-draw and will ensure that your components remain stable, especially when overclocking, and prolong their lifespan with clean power delivery. To top things off the V1200’s fully modular design, excellent array of connectors, high quality cabling and 7 year warranty make it an excellent choice for a high end multi-GPU or multi-CPU systems.

The only downside that stands out for me is that the Cooler Master V1200 has a fairly aggressive fan profile as we approach 80-100% load. This is a little sad because the efficiency of the unit dictates how fast the fans need to operate and with 80 Plus Platinum efficiency the 1800RPM we recorded at 100% load isn’t necessary. A 1500RPM fan would have been a much better choice as we know from our other reviews that rival units operate significantly quieter.

Pros

  • 7 year warranty
  • Competitive pricing for its wattage & efficiency combination
  • Excellent cable quality and range of connections
  • Fully modular
  • Semi-passive fan mode
  • Top draw voltage regulation and ripple suppression
  • 80 Plus Platinum efficiency

Cons

  • Loud at 80-100% load
  • Expensive for a 1200W power supply

“With support for just about any hardware configuration and excellent clean power delivery the Cooler Master V1200 Platinum is a smart choice for an extreme performance system.”
