Coolermaster Devastator Mouse & Keyboard Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The Coolermaster CM Storm Devastator gaming keyboard and mouse bundle  is available from most major retailers for around £32, but at time of writing it was just £27.56 from Scan.co.uk. This is obviously very good value for money given that you get both the keyboard and the mouse with a few extra bonus features from a leading peripherals manufacturer.

Overview

I do like the Devestator bundle, despite the fact that it’s actually not that great. Let’s not brush over the facts too much here, this is a cheap keyboard and a cheap mouse, which is obviously reflected in the price. The keyboard and mouse do not compare well to the standalone products that Coolermaster produce, as they do make a lot better products, but you can expect to pay at least double for the privilege of them and their quality. At the end of the day, not everyone has that extra budget to invest in their gaming peripherals, and it’s clear to me that Coolermaster have made every effort of packing in added value for money with the Devastator where ever they can.

The LED lighting on both the keyboard and the mouse is a really nice touch, often a feature that you find on a higher value product and something that will certainly appeal to a gaming audience. DPI toggling, rubber grips and a large scroll wheel are welcome additions to the mouse. My favourite feature however is those funky looking dedicated multimedia keys along the top of the keyboard, especially since most budget conscious designs add multimedia keys for the F-keys via an Fn shift., but CM have made the effort to create custom-made keys.

The key caps are of a really nice quality too, the soft-touch grip coating has a nice stealthy matte aesthetic that compliments the electric blue back-lighting very well.

Enthusiast gamers and PC users will no doubt want to look higher up the range, but when you’re on a tighter budget and need a quick and easy solution, then the Devastator is a very tempting option.

“For those who occasionally use their PC for browsing social media, playing a bit of Minecraft, or typing a few emails, you’ll have no issues with this combo. They’re cheap products, but it shows that Coolermaster have made every effort to make something unique that stands out from the crowd, while offering excellent value for money.”

Pros

  • Wallet friendly price tag
  • DPI toggle
  • LED backlighting
  • Easy to set up
  • Unique design
  • Dedicated multimedia keys

Cons

  • Mouse switches are a little loud
  • Plastics feel a cheap (not that I was expecting premium grade materials at this price)

  1. They look pretty decent for the price but won’t all those lands and grooves cut into them become a trap for dirt and grime over time?
