A Closer Look
Taking a look at the product in some detail, the first thing you will notice is that the whole test bench is black and features some stylish CoolerMaster branding along the top/front edge. You can clearly see where the motherboard standoffs will be inserted and that the inside part of the case includes a glossy finish, but to be honest we’re not quite sure why.
You will find on the front of the unit there are two buttons; one for power, and one for reset which personally I feel has way too much lead for the motherboard headers and we are unsure as to why CoolerMaster have done this.
The side of the unit reveals some slots and grooves for when various types of optical and storage drives are inserted. There are different combinations of drive placement, including at the top or bottom of the two slots. Obviously this changes with the amount and type of drives you are using due to their size.
The opposite side reveals more CoolerMaster branding, including the big CM logo and product name. I will admit at this stage, that the Lab name is growing on me. It makes me feel like this product is going to be used to cure the common cold or the like. It probably won’t but hey, we can always use the completed system for Folding@home and that way we really will be using it for that purpose.
The rear of the chassis shows where the power supply would slot in just behind the power and reset panel. You will see that the power supply fan will face down and blow through the included ventilation ports on the bottom of the chassis.
The bottom of the case reveals more slots and grooves for installation of various components and also gives you a better view of the ventilation ports for the power supply.
There are four rubber feet on the case (one in each corner) which aids in drowning out noise and gives fantastic anti-vibration properties, due to the material used.
