Cops Mistake Nintendo Direct For Bomb Threat

With Nintendo surprising everyone yesterday with the announcement of a Nintendo Direct presentation to premiere today, many people were of course excited but it seems that one student in California got a bit too excited. Following a report from Kotaku, a joke email sent from a student to a professor relating to this event has now led to a college campus being patrolled by extra police and K9 units after an innocent email relating to the Nintendo Direct was perceived as a bomb threat. The student had jokingly asked the professor to cancel the class due to an upcoming “once-in-a-lifetime event.” the event in question was Nintendo Direct.

Last night the California State University of Fullerton police were “made aware of a perceived vague threat” to the school via email. Of course, this led to worry that it was a warning of a possible shooting or bomb threat.

Now following “hours of investigation” the Nintendo Direct event that the email was referring to was found out and the student admitted it was a “bad joke”. Whilst the officers now understand the nature of the email and that there is no actual threat, they will still be sending additional officers to patrol the campus just to be on the safe side.

Now Nintendo Direct is definitely not a once-in-a-lifetime event but causing a bomb scare at your university because of it, that’s definitely a once-in-a-lifetime event.

Nintendo Direct is on later today at 10 PM GMT / 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET for a 40-minute show we’ll be sure to update you on what news comes from it.
