Corsair 460X RGB White
The Corsair range is packed with incredible chassis. It’s no surprise that they’re one of the most popular case makers ever, although that popularity expands to their PSUs, peripherals, and much more too. The 460X was a superb chassis when we first saw it a couple of years ago. However, we’ve just got our hands on the fully equipped RGB model with the white finish, which promises to be the sexiest variant of the 460X to date.
It’s a compact mid-tower that’s big on features. This model comes equipped with three of those lovely SP120 RGB LED fans and a built-in fan hub for all your cooling and RGB needs. Furthermore, you get front and side tempered glass, a PSU shroud, dust filters, and impressive radiator support (for a chassis of this size). So what else does it have to offer? Let’s dive in for a closer look.
Features
- Beautiful two-panel tempered glass: Immaculately display every component of your build.
- Three SP120 RGB LED fans: Light up your build with brilliant LED effects and draw ample cool air directly to your components without the turbulence that can cause fan hum.
- Clean, modern lines with an all steel exterior: Get rid of those plastic cases – the 460X has full steel front and top panels for extra durability and gorgeous good looks.
- Compact design, full-size capabilities: Don’t let the compact dimensions of the 460X fool you – it can house a full ATX motherboard and multiple GPUs.
- Direct Airflow Path: Drive cages are moved up and out of the path of cool air from the front intake fans and high-temperature components.

What Corsair Had to Say
“Beautifully simple and engineered to perform: the Crystal 460X with beautiful two-panel tempered glass, Direct Airflow cooling technology, and SP120 RGB LED fans is compact, expandable, and gorgeous.” – Corsair
A Closer Look – Exterior
First impressions of the Corsair 460 White are very good indeed. This is one very stylish looking chassis, with a soft white paint job inside and out. What’s more, the tempered glass is crystal clear. This does mean the system interior is extremely exposed, so your cable routing skills had better be on point.
The front panel is clear too, although since there is a dust filter between it and the fans, it does look slightly darker. I do like the design of the dust filter though, with its honeycomb design that really adds to the aesthetics quite nicely.
Front Panel
At the top of the front panel, you’ll find a feature-packed I/O panel. On the left, you’ll find lighting controls, which hook up to the internal RGB hub, which in turn hook up to the included fans. Along from there, you have your usual system controls, audio jacks, and a pair of USB 3.0 ports.
The 460X takes airflow pretty seriously, and you’ll find plenty of ventilation up top, as well as a full-length magnetic dust filter.
Whip off the filter, and you’ll find both 120mm and 140mm fan spacings up on the top; perfect for more fans, or some radiators if you need them. Of course, it’ll also provide passive ventilation too.
Down the right side, there’s just a solid metal panel. It’s mounted with a pair of thumb screws for easy access, but otherwise, it’s pretty standard. However, it does look slick in white.
Around the Back
Around the back, you’ll find all the usual bits and pieces. There’s a 120mm fan/radiator mount at the top. However, there’s no fan pre-installed here, just the three fans in the front. Below that, you’ll find seven expansion slots, each fitted with a reusable metal cover; plus a little extra ventilation next to those.
The base of the chassis is neat and tidy too. It has four chunky feet that provide very good ground clearance, allowing for airflow to the dust filter for the PSU air intake.
A Closer Look – Interior
Removing the glass is easy enough, just undo the four thumbscrews in the corners and lift it away. By doing this, you can easily install all of your hardware. This is an ATX chassis, and it does have impressive support, but it is also just a little compact too. This is a good thing, as it has a smaller footprint, but just be sure to measure twice to ensure your hardware will all fit as it can quickly get snug in there.
Below the motherboard, there’s a two-part white plastic PSU shroud. You can lift this out to easily install your PSU, then put it back in place to hide all those nasty cables out of sight. Cable routing is important in such a clean looking chassis with big windows on the side.
Rear Cooling Mount
In the back, there’s easily room for a 120mm fan, but more so a 120mm radiator such as an AIO. The elongated screw holes mean you can adjust the height of the fan/radiator too, ensuring maximum compatibility. I like that the PCIe brackets and other fittings are black too, it just breaks up white a little bit, giving some contrast.
There are plentiful cable routing options around the motherboard, as well as large routing grommets to the right. There’s even a huge CPU cooler mounting cut-out behind the motherboard, which should ease the installation process.
RGB Fans
The three fans are pre-installed in the front, but there’s no reason why you can’t move them elsewhere in the chassis. They’re all 120mm, although the chassis does have fittings for 140mm in the front too; something I’ll be taking advantage of in my build today.
There’s a small cut-away towards the front of the shroud too, which improves support for front panel radiators, as well as giving the fans room to do their job.
Behind the Motherboard
There are even more things going on behind the motherboard too. With extensive cable routing ties down points, and routing holes to keep things as tidy as possible.
All of the storage bays are hidden out of sight on this chassis. You’ll find three dedicated 2.5″ tool-free mounts right behind the motherboard; perfect for your SSDs.
However, there are also two 3.5″ drive mounts tucked under the PSU shroud, giving you five drive mounts in total.
The RGB lighting can be controlled front the front panel, but also runs through an internal controller. Not sure why you need two controllers, but I’m not going to complain.
That control then runs to a 6 port RGB lighting hub which is powered by a single SATA cable. This means you can control up to 6 x Corsair RGB fans with ease.
Complete System
The Corsair 460X is a great chassis to work with, as it has such comprehensive cable routing options. As you can see, the final build here is incredibly neat and tidy. I’ve stripped those front panel fans out, moving them to the top and rear of the build. I wanted to see if I could squeeze a 280mm radiator in here, and I obviously could. I did try fit that in the top, but it conflicted with the motherboard VRM, so in the front it went! Even then, it’s pretty tight, but it did fit in the end.
The PSU shroud is a nice addition, keeping all those cables hidden out of sight. Of course, it hides our storage drives too, keeping the front free from clutter.
Mounting a radiator in the front was quite a squeeze, and I did have difficulty getting the PSU shroud in place afterwards. Nothing a bit of muscle couldn’t fix though.
The cable grommets at the side of the motherboard are well placed though, providing short cable runs directly to the motherboard.
Plus, the chassis has plenty of length to it, giving us all the room we need for any high-end GPU on the market today.
I took the stock fans out of the front, and by putting them into the top and rear, I’ve created more light and airflow within our build. There’s also a lovely Aorus X399 Threadripper motherboard and CPU in here, so obviously no issues with big/high-end hardware here.
With all the glass back in place, you can really appreciate just how crystal clear that window is. The internals of the systems is very much on display. For those who love to show off their hardware, I can’t think of a better-looking chassis for the job.
Final Thoughts
How Much Does it Cost?
The Corsair Crystal Series 460X RGB White mid-tower chassis is available from Corsair with an MSRP of £149.99. That’s not cheap, but then again, nothing about the product screams “budget model”. This is a quality product from top to bottom, packed full of high-end features. When you factor everything from the fans to the glass into the equation, I think it’s very fairly priced. However! The MSRP can bite me, as the chassis is now only around £113 on sites like Amazon, which is honestly a freaking steal.
Overview
We’re coming to the end of 2018, and I have to admit that the Crystal SEries 460X is one of the best chassis I’ve seen this year. Admittedly it isn’t a new model for Corsair, we’re a little late getting around to reviewing this model. It’s also basically just a white model of the 460X that launched some time last year. However, that does diminish it from being one of the sleekest and most modern looking gaming chassis we’ve ever tested.
Compact
This chassis can handle some serious hardware. Our build today packed in a 280mm radiator, five fans, a Threadripper motherboard with a 24-core CPU, and a high-end PSU. There’s still room for more cooling, more storage drives, and multi-GPU setups too. The internals are a bit snug, but again, it’s still very much workable, it can just be a tight job getting the cable routing done. The smaller footprint is great though, and with such impressive air flow and filtering, it’s sure to keep performance strong.
Aesthetics
Corsair has done a great choice with the detail work here. Some white chassis tend to look a little “off” somehow or have a dull while, or that nasty glossy plastic paint look. Not here, it features a pristine matte finish that oozes quality. The crystal clear glass is fantastic quality too, and perfect for showing off your build. Of course, the addition of three premium-grade corsair RGB fans, two built-in fan/RGB controllers, and an RGB 6-port hub sweeten the deal a lot too. Buying those seperately would not be cheap.
Should I Buy One?
This is by far one of the best value high-end chassis on the market today. To get something this well made, this stylish, with this many features and extras for little over £100 is going to be hard to beat. Highly recommended!
