The Corsair Carbide Air 740 should be cropping up at all the usual major retailers today, and while it’s not cheap with an MSRP of $149 in the US, £134.99 in the UK and 153.90 EUR in Europe. You get a huge amount back in return for your investment. For the kind of builds that this chassis is designed for, it is excellent value for money.

Overview

I’m a little bit in love with the latest chassis from Corsair, it certainly impresses with its capabilities and would make a very nice home for any high-end gaming rig or workstation. I must admit that I didn’t like the design when I first took it out of the box, it does look a little bit like an industrial air filter, but given that the chassis is designed to have a focus on uncompromising airflow, is that really surprising? Style is subjective anyway, and while I had my reservations, all was forgotten when the build was complete, as the Air 740 really makes a bold statement.

Build quality is rock solid. Despite the rather hefty use of plastic on the external panels, they’re thick and durable and exceptionally well finished. Just because something is plastic heavy, that’s no indication that it has to look or feel cheap, and the Air 740 certainly doesn’t look or feel like anything other than a premium grade product.

The dual chamber design isn’t for everyone, as it is pretty wide and finding a spot on or around your desktop for it may not be something that everyone can do. However, the advantages of all that extra space speak for themselves, as the cable routing/management is unmatched, and having all the storage and PSU tucked in the back means that everything you see through the huge side panel window looks neat and tidy.

Component support is pretty high too, with room for multiple high-end graphics cards, thick radiators, lots of fans, a robust amount of storage and more; there isn’t much out there that the Air 740 can’t handle.
