Corsair Dark Core RGB SE & MM1000 Wireless Review

Performance

Corsair set out to break those boundaries about wireless down and have everyone cutting their cables. Sure, they’re not the first to do it, but the stigma that wireless is second best is quickly fading. The Dark Core is flawless, and I really mean that. It’s been a while since Corsair released a gaming mouse that doesn’t look a bit bonkers too. The design harks back to some of the more popular Logitech designs, and as a result, it fits your hand like a glove, regardless of your grip type.

The sensor is phenomenal, and with tracking issues even at higher DPI levels, it’s a blast to use for competitive gaming or fine technical work in Photoshop. Corsair says the response time is as low as 1mn wirelessly, and I don’t doubt it. With the cable in or out, I can’t perceive any difference in performance. Perhaps there’s some pro gamer out there with his nose in the air who claims he could, but I doubt it.

The ergonomics of the mouse are fantastic, and Corsair did a great job of seamlessly blending in the 9 switch design. The fact that they’re fully programmable makes it incredibly easy to use. The buttons on the LMB are perfect for changing DPI, launching your macros, or really anything you want. I also like the side button on the left of the mouse, it’s great for adding a sniper mode to drop DPI quickly.

As for the MM1000, it’s such a subjective thing, as is any gaming surface. I prefer softer surfaces, but this one does allow phenomenal glide that’s perfect for twitch shooters. The surface is large enough for lower DPI gaming and while the battery life is fantastic, leaving your mouse on the Qi spot when not in use is perfect for keeping it up and running.

Bonus factor

The Qi wireless can be used to charge any compatible device. Of course, if they’re not, you can use the little dongle thing to get the job done. I’m not likely to use that a lot, but it’s still a handy extra gadget to have in my opinion.

As a child still in my 30's (but not for long), I spend my day combining my love of music and movies with a life-long passion for gaming, from arcade classics and retro consoles to the latest high-end PC and console games. So it's no wonder I write about tech and test the latest hardware while I enjoy my hobbies!
