DDR5 is the newest memory technology, it features much higher clock speeds than DDR4 manages to reach with lower power consumption than DDR4 due to the voltage regulator being moved from the motherboard to the DIMMs themselves, this allows for simpler motherboard designs but means that they need to be designed to accommodate for this change and it also means that DDR5 memory will not work in a DDR4 slot even if it could physically fit. All of these changes also come at the sac rife of memory timings, they are currently a little over double that of DDR4 and could be the reason we lose some performance in certain workloads.
Corsair are veterans of PC hardware, they have been producing products since 1994, creating modules for memory and eventually memory itself, they have slowly expanded their product range over the years to include everything from keyboards to water cooling parts. Corsair has also managed to cement themselves as the largest market shareholder of memory at a huge 44% of market shares across a very large number of different manufacturers.
Corsair has sent us the DOMINATOR PLATINUM DDR5 32GB 5200MHz kit of memory to take a look at, the newest iteration of the Dominator Platinum kits from previous generations. Being part of the new DDR5 specification means that Corsair has had to make some changes with this generation of the Dominators, so we are yet to see if it can live up to the legacy of not only the previous Dominator kits but also the legacy of Corsair themselves.
