While we’ve tested (most) other memory kits at 3200 MHz since we rebuilt our new test bench, Corsair clearly have an advantage here. Not only did it perform well, but it’s a full 19 points ahead of the Viper RGB kit. This is incredibly impressive for just the first benchmark. What’s even more impressive is when we overclocked. The kit hit 3800 MHz with only the most basic of tweaks, and that pushed the score up to an even more impressive 2077!
The data bandwidth for the kit is pretty competitive too, not the highest at stock, but hardly slacking either. However, once we overclocked it, the Read performance was the highest we had seen to date. However, both the Write and Copy performance saw a pretty significant boost in performance also.
One thing with DDR4 has held pretty true on Z370/Z390, and that’s the memory latency. It’s pretty much always in the 4.9-something area. However, the Dominator Platinum slashed that time down to 44.0 and only went up to 44.8 while overclocked. That’s a huge amount faster than the competition and likely why we’re seeing such impressive performance.
Some very interesting things happened with WPrime too. Normally overclocking the memory increases things like latency and timings can be thrown out too. This often results in WPrime score going down (taking longer). However, with just 3.1 seconds at stock clocks, the Dominator did very well indeed. Furthermore, it’s the first kit I’ve tested to actually reduce the WPrime time when overclocked, dropping to just 3.0 seconds while others increased to 3.4 – 3.6!
Again we see the Dominator dominating in 3DMark too. It blitzed the test at XMP settings with 24944. The score was competitive when overclocked, but the Aorus RGB and much faster Viper kit edged out a lead this time. However, the scores are still pretty darn close overall.
The same holds true for PCMark 10 too, with the Dominator holding a single point lead over the Viper memory kit. Viper gets the lead while overclocked, but it was hitting 4000 MHz, so the Corsair kit is just behind it at 3800 MHz. Either way, this is still proving to be a very fast kit no matter what we throw at it.
