It’s Corsair’s latest flagship memory, with their latest RGB hardware innovations and extremely good performance. Obviously, it’s not going to be cheap. However, when it comes to high-end memory with these timings and features, it’s actually pretty competitive too. Memory is just expensive anyway, which doesn’t help. The cheapest clocking in at around £159.99 for a 16GB kit of 16-18-18-36. However, you can pay up to 1434.99 if you want an 8 x 16GB kit of 18-19-19-39. There’s a lot of options on offer. We had the 14-14-14-34 kit in a 4 x 8 GB format, which would set you back around £499. These prices are subject to change, availability and retailer offers. Shop around for the best prices and stock.
Obviously, not everyone is going to go out and want to drop a few hundred, or even much more than that on a memory kit. The Dominator Platinum series has always been the reserve of the deep-pocketed enthusiast. However, that’s inherently true of most high-end memory kits. It’s an expensive habit to get into overall. Admittedly, if you’re building a PC just to play Fortnite and use reddit, you don’t need flagship memory kits anyway.
If you’re building an extreme gaming system, built to squeeze every frame, render at extreme resolutions, playing in VR, and so much more. Then sure, this kit could help you push your high-end CPU and GPU and other components to their limits. It also proved to be a quality memory kit for workstation tasks, number crunching, rendering and productivity. Certainly having 64 GB of memory will help with the latter. If you’ve dropped big money on the best hardware for the rest of your system, then the Dominator is the final piece of that puzzle.
When it comes to great looking hardware, Corsair is hardly a new kid on the block. Their peripherals, coolers, chassis, power supplies and more, are all some of the most highly regarded on the market. The Dominator Platinum RBB is certainly no exception. It has one of the most robust and feature-packed heat spreader designs on the market. Not only does it perform well, but the aesthetics are on point thanks to the anodized finish. The addition of their new RGB lighting technology does push it above the competition though. Vivid lighting, rich colours, endless customisation, lower power usage and more. Most people may just see normal RGB, but Capellix technology is the future of Corsair’s product range for sure.
While not even the fastest memory kit we’ve tested, the Dominator Platinum smashed through many of our benchmarks with confidence. At both stock and overclocked settings, it scored plenty of new records for us today. Not only that, even when it wasn’t in first, it was still a close race. For those who want fast memory, great aesthetics, and next-gen RGB hardware, look no further than the Dominator Platinum. I expect these to be the popular memory kit of choice for 2019!
