Corsair Harpoon RGB Optical Gaming Mouse Review

One cool feature of all the new Corsair peripherals is that they’re supported by their fantastic CUE software. Not only can it manage all your Corsair devices, it also makes it very easy to tweak the configuration of them, and has a nice visual design that makes it easy for beginners while also still offering all the advanced features for power users.

Actions allow you to program new functions to each of the buttons. If you want a custom layout, macros, launches, a sniper button and more, this is where you can do it. The added bonus is that all of these settings can be set to multiple profiles, even saved directly to the device should you need to.

The Harpoon doesn’t have much lighting, just the Corsair logo at the back, but it still features lighting effects, full RGB and multiple profiles. You can use it for profiles, to indicate your DPI, or have it sync with other Corsair RGB devices for cool effects.

The DPI adjustment is comprehensive too, with five levels of adjustment plus a sniper mode. Each can be assigned a colour for easy reference, and any can be turned on or off from the DPI level rotation too, giving you lots of customisation to suit your needs.

The RGB lighting may be limited to one spot, but it’s nice and bright and it’s a very welcome addition on such an affordable mouse too.

The performance of this mouse is spot on, with fast and responsive Omron switches it’s a joy to use for work and gaming. Its lightweight design means it’s very nimble too, so if you like to play twitch shooters like CS:GO, or games that require super quick reactions and rapid clicks like LoL, then you’re going to absolutely love it, even more so thanks to the multiple profiles, button customisation, etc.

The sensor isn’t anything flagship, but it’s hardly lacking either. The sensor is really smooth up to around 1500 DPI, and while there’s a little jitter at 3000, it’s not noticeable in real-world use at all. Maxing out at 6000DPI, the mouse it great for fast tracking in games, and while there’s the slightest hint of jitter and angle snapping creeping in there, it’s not noticeable in use, and certainly wouldn’t be an issue at such extreme tracking speed anyway. Overall, the mouse feels smooth and accurate across the whole range, which is just as good for working in Photoshop as it is thrashing it out in DOTA II.
