Corsair Harpoon RGB Optical Gaming Mouse Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The Corsair Harpoon RGB Optical Gaming Mouse launches today, and should already be showing up at major retailers with an MSRP of just $29.99. This is obviously very good value for money, and you’ll struggle to find more for your money anywhere else.

Overview

The latest mouse from Corsair isn’t perfect, and it’s clearly not designed to be to appeal to everyone, but given the competitive price tag, and the performance and features it offers, we can see this providing a huge hit with budget conscious gamers around the world.

For me personally, the mouse is a little too small. I have wide hands and long fingers and prefer a palm rest grip on my mouse, so the Harpoon isn’t really suitable for how I like to play. If you prefer a fingertip or claw grip, however, then that doesn’t really matter and the Harpoons ergonomics are going to be awesome, especially thanks to that durable rubber grip coating on the side panels. The smaller size is also a benefit for younger gamers too, as a smaller mouse works really well for smaller hands, and at this price, it could be a great mouse for the younger Minecraft loving generations.

For something so affordable the Harpoon packs a mighty feature set, such as that great PixArt 6000DPI sensor. It may jitter a little at max DPI, but far less than we were expecting given the price range this mouse occupies, and you’ll have a hard time doing better for less. Then we’ve got the lovely Omron switches, which have a nice quality feel to them and are rated for 20 million clicks. In terms of Software, CUE is one of the best on the market, and with fully programmable buttons, macros, DPI profiles, RGB lighting, and more, the Harpoon isn’t likely to leave you feeling short on customisation options.

The build quality is pretty robust, surprisingly so for a mouse that weighs just 85 grams! If you like a mouse that’s easy to move, even when it’s placed on thick padded gaming surfaces, then it could be the perfect choice for you.

Pros

  • Ultra-light design
  • RGB LED lighting
  • 6 programmable buttons
  • Perfect for claw/fingertip grips
  • Extremely competitive price
  • Excellent sensor for this price range
  • Good build quality

Cons

  • None

Natural

  • Small size not ideal for palm-rest grip
  • Single DPI adjustment button, but can be configured in CUE
  • Slight jitter at max DPI, but not noticeable in real-world use

“Corsair has created on of the best budget-friendly mice on the market today, as the Harpoon offers great performance, an impressive array of features and a design that takes visual cues from more expensive products in their range. Perfect for those who want a light and fast claw-grip gaming mouse.”
