Performance

Corsair is one of the leading names in the world for peripherals, and they’ve been making award-winning headsets for many years. The 50mm drivers pack a punch, actually, a little too much of a punch in some cases, the headset is really freaking loud. If you’re already half deaf, you may appreciate that, if you’re not half deaf, it could put you well on that path… That being said, it’s nice to have the extra power in those drivers when dealing with quieter audio sources.

The ear cups are closed-backed and with the PU leather, it all helps to lock in the sound and block out ambient noise. They’re not totally isolating, but it’s a good effort and means you can have your headphones turned up a little louder without bothering those who are sitting nearby.

The overall ergonomics are excellent, the headset is light and comfortable. There’s a good amount of space inside the ear cups too, I have fairly large ears, but the padding surrounds them really well without issues. The drivers sit nice and close to your ears, giving them a very direct and clean stereo sound. However, that only makes the Dolby surround processing more impressive, as it really does open the sound up and give it a huge soundscape.

The sound quality is excellent very clear and bright. Weirdly it has the sound of a more open and passive ear cup design despite being closed back. Furthermore, you can use the iCUE software to apply some EQ, and you can get quite aggressive with it too, without causing any distortion issues with the sound. The microphone sounds good too, nothing particularly innovative to its sound, but it’s clear, doesn’t pick up too much background noise, and when it’s folded up, it is muted automagically.

With the microphone down, you can use the mute button on the side of the headset, so it’s nice to have options. The boom is flexible but it springs back to its original position, it’s more just so the boom doesn’t snap if you catch it on your desk or a door frame or something.

Overall, this is another great entry from Corsair. The ability to pair it with my PC and with my phone is nice though, it means I can listen to music from my phone or take a call while I’m in the office and with no mucking about, go back to playing my PC games; nice.
