Corsair HS55 Wireless Gaming Headset Review

How Much Does it Cost?
The Corsair HS55 Wireless Gaming Headset is available today with an MSRP of just £99.99. That’s not a bargain, but it’s not overpriced either, and it’s in line with many rival headsets of a similar specification too, giving you plenty to consider.
Overview
This is a really nice headset, but I must admit it does feel pretty familiar. Looking at the specifications, it’s pretty much identical to the Corsair HS55 Core, and that’s not a bad thing, as the previous model was rather excellent and I loved it when I reviewed it. I reached out to Corsair and they did clarify this is basically a refresh rather than the next-gen model. Again, that’s OK too. It’s a little better made, a little more refined and I really cannot fault what’s on offer here.
The wireless performance is flawless, not that I would have expected anything less from Corsair, which has been one of the leading brands for wireless PC gaming technology. The headset pairs fast and with no effort, so getting it powered up and ready to play is a breeze. The battery life is excellent, I managed a few days of gaming before I had to reach for the Type-C cable, and even then it charges up in about 90 minutes and you can charge while you play if you really need to.
It’s very lightweight, and at just 266 grams it is never a burden during those long gaming sessions. However, the soft ear cup padding and material choices take that a step further. If you need a comfortable headset (I mean, who doesn’t!) then you’ll be very happy with what’s on offer here.
The sound quality is excellent, and the headset is extremely powerful should you need big volume at any time. However, it’s the updated Dolby Audio 7.1 Surround Sound processing that really shines, and its overall channel separation and surround effect is perfect. However, keep in mind that’s only on PC or Mac with the software installed, and it’s Stereo on other devices. However, there is Tempest 3D Audio support on PS5, but I was unable to test that myself as I don’t have a PS5.
The Corsair HS55 isn’t a big shift from their previous model, but given the previous one is still excellent, that’s hardly a downside. The design, build quality, materials and performance are all superb, and with the upgraded Dolby audio, it does the most important thing required of a headset; it sounds great.
