Corsair HS60 HAPTIC Gaming Headset Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The Corsair HS60 Haptic is available from today with an MSRP of just £119.99 here in the UK and €129.99 in the rest of Europe. It’s available via Amazon and you can check for up to date pricing and stock right here. Keep in mind stock rollout could be a little slow, lockdown is still here kicking the industry in the ass day by day. For those reading this review in a few years from now, remember this madness?

Overview

Corsair really are in a good spot with the HS60 Haptic, because if I’m honest, the Corsair HS60 Pro is already a pretty damn good headset to begin with, albeit they’re both very different despite being based around the same design. The “old” one is 3.5mm driven, while this one features USB connectivity, a built-in soundcard, those Haptic drivers, and that hydro dipped camo design.

USB

The HS60 Pro sounds fantastic, especially if you have a good amplifier to plug it into. However, the new Haptic model has it beaten hands down and deals with all its own amplification and EQ, which is a huge advantage. Albeit, it is a shame this one doesn’t work on consoles too, but hey, as someone who is a PC gamer 99% of the time, that’s hardly a deal-breaker for me.

Sound Quality

This headset has a really great set of drivers. The 50mm models Corsair has been using are some of the best out there. They handle huge amounts of volume and EQ really well. Plus, as someone who listens to everything from Classical to extremely chaotic death metal and beyond, I need a driver that responds well to anything, and these certainly offer me that. They’re detailed, distortion-free and just simply sound great no matter what you play through them.

No Longer a Gimmick

I get the benefits of Haptic, and have had some experience with it in the past, and generally sided on “it sounds ok, but meh” and well, that’s all changed. ALL haptic headsets sound hollow, they have this spring in them and when you tap or move the headset, it sounds hollow. Put simply, that issue pisses me off. However, Corsair’s headset does NOT have that issue. If anything it sounds like they’ve padded the interior of the drivers, as they don’t sound hollow, nothing rattles, nothing buzzes. This means their Haptic rumble feels really tight and connected and performs nothing like other rumble drivers I’ve tested prior. This one really works and is something I’ve been happy to leave turned on. However, I do tend to keep it on at no more than 50% myself.

Should I Buy One?

Haptic not your thing? Don’t worry, as this headset is still worth every penny. It has class-leading build quality, and the one-off camo design on each model is really awesome too. It’s exceptionally well put together, uses premium materials, and as a result it both looks and feels awesome. It’s a headset you’ll be proud to wear, and it leaves you with a big grin on your face with every movie, album or game you throw at it. It’s nice to finally have a Haptic headset that really works well even with the Haptic off, but that will blow you away when you turn it on.
