Corsair HX1000i Modular Power Supply Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

Corsair’s HX1000i power supply is currently retailing for $229.99 at Amazon and Newegg in the USA. In the UK it can be had for £157.99 at Overclockers. A 7 year warranty is provided for this power supply by Corsair.

Conclusion

Corsair’s HX1000i power supply offers an interesting bridge between Corsair’s RM series and their ultimate AXi series. On performance and on paper the HXi sits a lot closer to the AXi series based on its excellent ripple suppression capabilities, high PFC, Platinum efficiency and solid voltage regulation. However, as we’ve already noted the HX1000i isn’t a fully digital power supply: it is more of a hybrid or partial digital power supply which means that it shares a lot of design aspects with the RM series. The lack of digital controls doesn’t hinder performance from what we observed as its performance was still excellent. The only issue I had, and a minor one at that, was a little bit of voltage droop on the 12 volt rail at higher loads. However, I do not believe it is significant enough to warrant any concern among potential buyers.

The HXi’s main selling points are going to be the fact it features strong all-round performance backed up by user-experience enhancing features such as near-silent operation, a great selection of cables and connectors, a fully modular design, digital controls & monitoring and an impressive 7 year warranty. The HX1000i is built for a specific breed of high-end systems and as such it comes with a substantial price tag to match, but to the discerning buyer the price is justified by what’s on offer.

Pros

  • Silent operation (semi-passive mode too)
  • Selection of cables and connectors
  • Fully modular
  • 7 year warranty
  • Fan test button, digital controls & monitor
  • Excellent ripple suppression
  • 80 Plus Platinum Efficiency and High PFC
  • Corsair Link functionality, optional software provided

Cons

  • Commands a premium
  • Minor voltage droop on 12 volt rail at higher load

“With silent operation, impressive performance and a selection of digital controls and monitoring the HX1000i offers a great cheaper alternative to Corsair’s premium AXi series.”

  1. A nice looking unit, as far as symmetrical rectangular black boxes go that is. That Corsair link connector has limited value but nice for people who are fascinated by gimmicky things, PSU’s are self contained after all.
