Corsair iCUE LT100 Smart Lighting Towers Review

How Much Does it Cost?

Did someone say premium Corsair product! Run wallet, run, nobody can save you from the RGB addicts. In all seriousness though, this is a cool product, it’s pretty unique and it’s made with premium features. So when I tell you that it’s £129.99 you likely won’t be that shocked. That’s $129.99 in the US too, but Exc TAX. A Philips hue light strip is about 60-70 and only does one colour at a time and zero effects as standard. You do the math and you realise that for this kind of lighting tech, it’s a really good price. Expensive, but still a good price.

Overview

This really is for the gamer who has everything? Already got your 2080 Ti? Your 64GB of RAM? Your sweet new gaming chair? The monitor of your dreams? Those RGB PSU cables? A Full array of kick-ass Elgato products? Then you need these lights of course. I know I’m mocking a bit, but they’re a completely non-essential purchase for just about everyone. However, I love them. Corsair, if you want to send a few more, I’ll love those too.

Build Quality

These are every bit the quality product one would expect from Corsair. Aluminium housing, a weighted aluminium base with polished bezels, utterly uniform RGB lighting presentation, tool-free assembly, and more. Plus, all the cables are of a really nice quality, and everything can be set up in about a minute and that includes the software side of thing. A lot of care has gone into making this very durable and easy to set up.

Performance

It’s endless the number of effects you can do with this setup. Monitor ambient lighting by hiding them behind the screen. Put them off to the side to bathe your desktop in the warm glow of any colour you like. Set them to a dim and warm white for a soft study light. You can dim the REALLY low actually and they’re practically a nightlight.

Another cool setup is to stick them next to your speakers and face them forward with the visualiser turned on for your music. Or how about using the SDK to program a visual tracker for your ammo count in a game? Honestly, there will a LOT of uses for these, and I can’t wait to see what people come up with.

Should I Buy Them?

At this price, they’re likely not going to appeal to a huge market. However, compared to the options like a Philips Hue light strip, you get a lot more value from Corsair, they have more features, a LOT more features, more than a single colour, up to four can be paired together, they’re aesthetically pleasing and well… they’re just cool. Utterly pointless too, but they’re still a nice thing to have and play with, and there’s no harm in enjoying that.
