Corsair K55 RGB PRO XT Keyboard Review

Performance

While this may be a membrane keyboard, it uses a plunger style switch that gives it a much more mechanical feel. The keys have a similar travel distance to that of a Cherry MX Red and a fairly similar actuation force too. However, they do feel quite different despite being linear. They sort of pop and bounce due to the rubber trigger of the switch, it actually makes me think of MX Red with O-Ring mods. They feel snappy and responsive with a quick return rate that makes them a blast for typing and gaming alike.

Beyond that though, there’s nothing particularly unique about the typing experience, it’s about as good as any other plunger system out there, and it’s really a preference. It’s far superior to just rubber dome switches, but not quite as smooth as mechanical (but it is a lot more affordable too!). One thing that isn’t compromised, however, is the RGB technology, and with full per-key RGB lighting, it can keep up with the fancy lighting of the much more expensive Corsair keyboards!

I already have a Corsair mouse and mouse mat, so the iCUE software detected the keyboard and automatically synced up all of the RGB. It really couldn’t have been much easier.

The colours are absolutely stunning too, and even in this well lit room on a sunny day, there’s a lot of depth and vibrancy.

The font is evenly illuminated, but there’s a stunning underlighting effect too.

There are loads of effects built into the software, and with iCUE, you’ll have the best RGB software on the market, and it really is endless how much you can tweak it. It’ll sync with any compatible Corsair iCUE hardware too; cases, fans, light strips, external lights and much more.

However, if you’re like me, you’ll just set it all to red and leave it.
