Corsair K70 Core Mechanical Keyboard Review

How Much Does it Cost?
The Corsair K70 Core is available from today and stock should start landing at the usual big-name retailers any time now. Prices are very reasonable too, with an MSRP of $99.99 in the US, 99.99 EUR, and here in the UK it’s just £89.99. For such a quality keyboard, that’s a price that’s hard to ignore, and I expect these to sell like crazy in the coming days.
Overview
This is a stunning mechanical keyboard, not just for gaming, but I’ve been typing my reviews on it all week, and really, I can’t find a fault with it! As an added bonus, it’s compatible with PC, Mac, Xbox One, Series X, Series S, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, so it can be your keyboard companion on whatever system you play on.
I love that it’s got so many onboard features too, making it plug-and-play friendly. You can control much of the RGB, built-in profiles, media controls and more directly on the keyboard. However, I strongly recommend you set up the iCUE software at least once, as you can give this keyboard some extensive customisation over five different profiles. If you want to, you can ditch the software, and enjoy your profiles anywhere you go. However, for the most advanced RGB animations, the software is recommended and great fun to play around with.
The build quality is superb too, certainly on par with Corsair keyboards that cost twice as much as this one does, and it’s great to see so many premium features trickle down to a sub £100 keyboard for a big-name brand like Corsair. Frankly, it’s a shock that the quality is this good and the price this low, given the horror show I had with the new Thermaltake keyboard just last week, proving that a big name and a big price isn’t always a sure thing.
This is the first time I’ve used the Corsair branded switches too, and they certainly deliver a great experience. However, Corsair has often been at the front for new switches, having some exclusive designs from Cherry in the past, and being the first to have MX Speed switches and more. It’s great to see that trend continue and they really nailed the tactile and auditory aspects of the typing experience here.
Should I Buy One?
Superb build quality, silky smooth Corsair mechanical switches, a plethora of onboard features, extensive programmability and RGB customisation, as well as good attention to ergonomics and usability. Corsair has absolutely knocked it out of the park with the K70 Core, and at a price that’s sure to grab the attention of both the gaming market and those who just want a nice keyboard for the office. Highly recommended!
