How Much Does it Cost?

The Corsair K70 RGB MK.2 SE Rapid Fire Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with Cherry MX Silver Switches is available now. You can find it on Amazon for around £169.99. That’s not cheap, I will admit, but honestly, it seems like a fair price for what you get. Normally, Corsair flagship keyboards are in the £120-150 price range. However, a set of PBT caps costs around £50 on their own, and that aluminium, silver and grey matching hardware is likely not cheap to produce either. Expensive? Yes, but you get what you pay for.

Overview

Corsair continues to impress with their flagship keyboards. While the latest model of the K70 doesn’t offer any real innovation over their previous or other currently marketed models, it’s certainly their best looking model. Sure, it’s hardware is all top of the range though. With Cherry MX Silver Switches, full per-key RGB lighting, a detachable wrist rest, USB pass-through, multimedia keys and more. Corsair is hardly holding back here.

Build Quality

Corsair hasn’t put together a badly built keyboard that I can remember. The full aluminium frame on this is simply stunning to look at. However, it also makes the keyboard incredibly sturdy. Aluminium is lightweight and very strong, giving the K70 virtually no flex or rattle to the main chassis of the keyboard. Premium grade keycaps, thickly braided cables, and everything else further cements this as a best-of when it comes to building materials.

Aesthetics

I feel like a broken record by saying how nice it looks. However, a lot of the looks come from the RGB. With iCUE software, it’s easy to dial in any colour you desire on any switch the keyboard has to offer. The colours are bright, vivid and the effects flow with remarkable precision. Personally, I think the lighter keyboard colours make RGB pop more than a black keyboard ever could.

Should I Buy One?

I’m not so stuck up that I would even think to suggest a £169.99 keyboard to people is a reasonable thing to do. You can pick up a standard old version of the K70 with red LED lighting and a black aluminium chassis for just £104.99 now. If you’re purely buying for a great performance keyboard, that’s the one to go with. However, looks are the big new feature here, and the Special Edition is something you either need in your life or you don’t. Personally, I’m willing to stop eating crisps at my desk just so I can have this gleaming white and silver keyboard in front of me a little longer.
