The Corsair Lapdog isn’t cheap, clocking in at £109.99 from Overclockers UK. Of course, you do get what you pay for with this, as it’s a very high-quality product, with superb build quality and lashings of beautifully finished aluminium, and we would rather than was the case than this thing be crafted out of cheap plastics.
Overview
There have been a lot of cool changes in the way we enjoy our PC games over the years, especially with the introduction of things like 4K gaming, and living room based gaming systems such as the Corsair Bulldog. More and more people are investing in a 4K TV and while consoles still lack the grunt to push those kind of resolutions, PC gaming doesn’t have such drawbacks (so long as you don’t count budget as a drawback). Building a high-end PC for your living room is easier than ever, gaming in 4K is easier than ever, but kicking back with a controller on the couch certainly isn’t for everyone and that’s where the Lapdog comes in.
If you’re serious about your gaming, but equally serious about kicking back and relaxing with your keyboard and mouse, then this is a fantastic solution to tick both of those boxes. It’s certainly not cheap given it costs over £100, plus you’ve got to eat up the cost of a keyboard and mouse for it which are installed in such a way that they cannot be quickly added or removed between uses, so you could be looking at £200+ here. However, if you are building a 4K gaming rig for the living room, this is still unlikely to be one of the most expensive parts of your new gaming build, so it’s all relative in the end. It’s also quite impractical to store, as it’s fairly bulky and wide, and with the mouse wired in, you can’t stand it against a wall without the mouse swinging around and getting scratched up. The only solution I had was to put the entire system under a couch or on top of my bookcase; that’s fine by me, but make sure you’ve got a solution for storing it before purchase.
I would love to see Corsair slim down the main USB cable for it, as it is quite chunky as it is, but also understandably so as it’s more prone to damage being trailed around a living area rather than behind a desk. Again, this isn’t the most practical solution in the world, but it is the most practical keyboard and mouse solution for gaming in the living room and that’s something we 100% support, because using the Lapdog for gaming is simply awesome, and while you’re gaming, any of these minor issues are easily forgotten.
