How Much Does it Cost?

The Corsair MP600 PRO 2TB M.2 NVMe PCIe x4 Gen4 SSD is available now from many major retailers, although stock does seem to sell out fairly quickly, it should be restocked fairly regularly too. Even Amazon says they’ve got stock on the way. Prices are currently showing at £400, but that will likely fluctuate a little until stock levels settle.

Of course, that’s a lot of money, but keep in mind just how damn fast this drive is. You’re paying a premium for bleeding-edge performance, their excellent build quality and a well-respected brand name.

Overview

It’s no secret that Gen 4 drives have the potential to be incredibly fast, and it’s safe to say that the new Corsair MP600 PRO 2TB is one of the fastest of that bunch! You are paying a premium for it, but Corsair say the drive will do up to 7000 MB/s read and 6550 MB/s write. I didn’t hit the max speed on read, but it’s unlikely many systems well if I’m honest. However, I was able to get around 6300-6400 MB/s fairly consistently. That’s still more than 10x faster than the best SATA III drives, it’s certainly no slouch.

Write speeds were closer to the theoretical maximum, though, coming in around 6200-6300 MB/s and only around 200 MB/s short of the 6550 MB/s limits. Again, that’s incredibly quick, and even at 2TB, you could fill and empty this drive in record time.

Build Quality

The drive is compact, as are all M.2 drives really, but it still feels really robust. It has a wrap-around heatsink and clip design, ensuring that the aluminium heatsink is kept in tight contact with the chipset. It’s a big heatsink too, at least, for such a compact drive. The extra surface area provided is going to ensure it can keep the drive’s performance dialled up to maximum, even under extended high loads.

Of course, you can remove it and use your own cooling solution if you desire. Such as those that come pre-fitted into the motherboard chipset design these days. However, for the most part, Corsair’s own solution will more than do the job.

Of course, Corsair uses excellent quality 3D TLC NAND and with an MTBF of 1.7m hours, and endurance of at least 14000 TBW, you can be pretty confident in the quality of this drive.

Should I Buy One?

While this is a bit of an expensive investment, the speeds it can deliver more than justify the cost. A 1TB model is available, but when you want zero compromises on capacity and performance, then the MP600 Pro is ready to rock.
