Corsair Professional Series HX1050 Power Supply Unit Review

Although Corsair doesn’t do anything radical with the appearance of the HX-1050, the sheer quality of the unit is evident by just taking a glance at it- subtle aesthetic features really stand out to make this unit a thing of beauty!On the top of the unit we can see that Corsair incorporates their fantastic looking grill design where the lines of the fan grill are continued along the solid casing. The Corsiar logo sits in the middle of the silent 140mm fan which also has a great look about it. The casing uses black Torx screw heads which are either designed to look nice, in which case they work, or to keep idiots like me out, in which case they don’t! In a windowed case, I would recommend installing the unit with the fan facing upwards to benefit from the looks of the unit which doesn’t affect performance by any notable amount.

On the bottom we can see that the unit is plain save for a sticker in the middle containing the current ratings and a lot of certification. Although this is fine if the unit is installed with the fan facing up, it is not very nice to look at if you have the fan faced downwards which is why I would recommend installing it with the fan facing upwards on a windowed chassis.

The sides of the unit house the great looking sticker which are designed to be the right way up whichever way you install the unit which is a nice touch, the raised accents around the sticker also make it look better than most units on the market.

The front of the PSU houses all the modular cables and does so very well. It is clearly labelled and is also colour-coded.

The rear of the unit gave a few surprises as most PSUs are exactly alike at the back. It comes with large really solid grill, an oversized power switch and a discreet HX-1050 logo which was a great little touch.
