Corsair SP120/SP140 RGB ELITE Fan Kit Review

Exterior Packaging – Front

Since both products are pretty similar packages, we feel it would be pretty pointless looking at them individually. In that regard, while the specifications are slightly different on both models, the only notable difference is that the 140mm kit is, as you might expect, slightly wider while the 120mm is slightly taller.

In terms of what we see, the frontages of both the Corsair SP120 and SP140 go big and bold with nice clear images of the fans (and we should note, in their quantity) clearly on display with all that lighting in action!

Exterior Packaging – Rear/Sides

Again, the rear of both is practically identical with it giving you another image of the fan, the technical specifications, as well as listing off all of the key features (in various languages). – Overall, in terms of information, Corsair has provided you here with everything you could possibly want to know!

The Fans

Starting off with a closer look at the SP120, as this is a kit you are provided with 3 x 120mm fans. The fans themselves are well presented with a slick black frame with plenty of open space for the RGB lighting effects to present themselves.

A look on the reserve shows that Corsair has utilized their CO-9050109-WW PWN fan for this design. A model we haven’t encountered before which confirms that, at least based on what we can see, this is indeed a new and unique product.

Given that requirements for 140mm fans are a little more limited, the Corsair kit here provides you with two of them which should be ideal for either front intake on a chassis or as a potential upgrade for those of you who own 280mm AIO coolers (a size which is undoubtedly getting more and more popular).

In something that isn’t overly surprising, the SP140 utilizes CO-9050111-WW fans with the difference in model number simply signifying their larger size. As a completely irrelevant side note, however, I wonder what ever happened with the CO-9050110…

Although the mounting point is slightly larger and more pronounced on the SP140, both sets of fans come with corner mounting points with a small area of anti-vibration padding in place. As such, when installed, this should help keep the noise levels to a minimum!

Accessories

In terms of accessories, as these are fan kits, you clearly don’t expect much in the way of parts. What Corsair does provide you with, however, is undoubtedly more than useful!

As well as providing you with all the mounting screws necessary to attach these to your case (with the only exception being the longer screws for mounting to an AIO – but we’d always recommend reusing the original manufacturers supplied away) the only other item of note is the Lighting Node CORE hub controller for the ARGB lighting.

Designed to work best with Corsair’s own ‘iCue’ software, the hub controller is excellent both in terms of presentation and apparent quality. Please note though that there are a number of factors somewhat unusual in the design that we will discuss later in this review.
