DDR5 is the newest memory technology to hit the market. It has higher base clocks than DDR4 and lower power consumption due to the removal of the voltage regulator from the motherboard and moving it to the DIMM itself. The drawback for DDR5 at the moment is the timings, they are slower than DDR4 and could therefore allow DDR4 to pull ahead in certain tasks.
