Performance And Overclocking
The kit detects fine and runs easily at its 2400MHz 10-12-12-31-2T profile.
In terms of performance we can see they offer an extremely high level of performance, it really is something to behold.
Overclocking them reaped very little. At the next divider, 2600MHz, the system would not boot unless we upped the voltage a lot and even then it still wasn’t 100% stable. Plus you wouldn’t really want to use more than 1.65 volts for your DRAM in the long term as it isn’t good for your RAM or CPU’s longevity. The best overclock we could get at 1.65 volts involved tweaking the base clock by a few MHz to add 119MHz. We went from DDR3-2400 to DDR3-2519.
Sadly the DDR3 kit we had was already at its peak at 2400MHz. Increasing the frequency saw the read and copy speeds both drop significantly though the write and latency both improved slightly.
